A hot air balloon has no real online management and it is up to the operator to use the wind thermals discovered at various altitudes in conjunction with the gas supply system to maneuver the air balloon to a secure landing area. Because of this, each trip is unique and an exciting experience for everyone onboard.

Because the hot air balloon does not return to its launching point each trip is very different with a wide variety of views and sights.Rarely are 2 trips the same, making this type of balloon ride very unique indeed.
Before anyone gets near a ballon the company will carefully check with the weather bureau to find out what weather is expected over the flying area. If the weather tends to be rainy or windy the flight will be postponed but if the weather report is good the ground crew will take the hot air balloon to the take off point and prpare the balloon for flight
Hot Air Balloon Pre-Flight Preparation
The balloon sheath or envelope is carefully unloaded and laid out flat on the ground while the basket and other equipment is unpacked. The basket is set upright and the burners are tested as are the connection lines to the gas tanks.
When this has been thoroughly checked and has passed inspection the basket is positioned on its side and the guide lines and ropes are attached to the balloon envelope or sheath. The pilot then carefully checks the envelope for any tears or breakage and then he inflates the the envelope with cold air from a fan to open the envelope further.
After more inspection within the balloon sheath it is declared safe and the rest of the process f rigging and inflating the balloon can take place after which the passengers will be loaded or climb aboard for take-off.
When an air balloon ride is scheduled 2 vehicles are assigned to each balloon. The first air balloon vehicle is the unit used carry the hot air balloon to the launching point and the second is the retrieval vehicle, usually a grand voyager or bus used to retrieve the pilot and passengers in comfort and return them to their hot air balloon accommodation venue. During the balloon safari the hot air balloon pilot will remain in radio contact with the ground crew which provides him with recommendations on the best roadways to use for the landing area.
Most air balloon operators work in conjunction with landowners or have their own balloon hangars at popular launch sites around main centers such as Magaliesburg, Pilanesberg or similar areas. The crew involved with both launching, landing and piloting are proffessional and well trained in the flight maneuvers, tactics and safety drills required for hot air balloon flight.

On arrival at the air balloon landing point the recovery vehicle will whisk you off back to the launch point where you will delight in a well-deserved dinner. Air balloon safaris can be arranged to view the Big 5 or any type of game available in the surrounds
